Image Gallery — Support and documentation

ImageGallery is a Power BI visual that turns any table with image URLs into an interactive gallery with a modal viewer, and exports photo reports as PDF (with a template designer) and PowerPoint (using your corporate template). This is the product's support hub.

Getting started

1. Install the visual from Microsoft AppSource (or import the .pbiviz file if we provided one).
2. Drag the column containing your image URLs into the Image URL field (they must be https). Make sure the column's data category is "Image URL".
3. Optionally add the text fields for the grid, the modal viewer and the export.
4. To export, click Export PDF. With a Pro license, configure the template via the gear ⚙ (visible in edit mode).

The PowerPoint template

PowerPoint export uses your corporate template: ImageGallery does not impose a design of its own — it clones one of your slides and fills in the photos and the data. The report comes out with your branding, your fonts and your footer already in place.

How to prepare it

1. Create a .pptx containing the slide you want repeated (the pattern slide). You can keep other slides before or after it — a cover, a back page — and they are preserved as they are.
2. Mark where the photo goes with a text box whose only content is {{foto}}. The photo is placed inside that box, centred and keeping its aspect ratio, so it is never stretched or cropped.
3. Write your text using placeholders in double braces: {{centro}}, {{fecha}}, {{descripcion}}… You choose the names; you then match each one to a column of your model in the visual's designer.
4. In Power BI, open the gear ⚙ → PPT template and upload it. The visual detects the slots and placeholders on its own and suggests how to map them to your fields.

Several photos on the same slide

Number the slots and the fields belonging to each one:

• Photo slots: {{foto_1}}, {{foto_2}}, {{foto_3}}…
• Text for each slot: {{centro_1}}, {{fecha_1}}, {{centro_2}}, {{fecha_2}}…

With N slots, the pattern slide repeats once for every N photos. On the last slide, any leftover slots are removed entirely and their text is blanked: no stray {{placeholder}} and no empty boxes.

Sample template

You don't have to build one from scratch. In the designer, the PPT template tab has a "Use the sample template" button that loads a ready-made two-photos-per-slide template: click it, export, and see the result. From there you can download it, open it in PowerPoint and change the colours, logo and fonts — the placeholders are already in place and you can see exactly how they work.

If you'd rather control the photo frame

As an alternative to {{foto}}, you can insert an image in PowerPoint and rename its shape to imagen_1 (Home → Arrange → Selection pane). The photo then fills that image's frame exactly, cropping if needed — useful for full-bleed layouts or cropped shapes. For several photos: imagen_1, imagen_2… just like the placeholders.

Limits

• .pptx format (not .ppt or .potx), up to 20 MB.
• Up to 300 photos per export.
• PowerPoint export requires the Pro + Cloud Export plan.

Common issues

"Download unavailable" when exporting — your organization has disabled downloads from visuals. Send your administrator the 2-minute guide. "Image not exportable" in the PDF — the image server does not send CORS headers. Solutions in the administrator guide (FAQ section). Images do not show in the gallery — check that the URLs are https, public or reachable by the report's users, and that the column's data category is "Image URL". The "Get license" button does not appear — in embedded environments or Report Server, AppSource licensing is not available; see the embedded licensing page.
